Insecticide Research

The Innovative Vector Control Consortium (IVCC) is a partnership of various academic and medical insistutions dedicated to the rapid development of new insecticides and other methods of vector control. With $50.7 million in seed funding from the Gates Foundation, the IVCC is novel both in its scale and focus on public health applications. Agricultural demand has always driven the development of new insecticides, as public health applications are tiny and unprofitable in comparison.

The development of vector resistance to available insecticides is inevitable and the development of new insecticides is critical to the fight against malaria.

In December 2008, AFM published a policy paper calling for new investment, new policies and better advocacy for public health insecticides.
